Justification for the program using the concepts and theories we discussed in class
DAY 1: ACADEMICS
Yoga Exercise
Alfred Bandura’s Stress Management
Based on Bandura’s theory, a person with a high level of self-efficacy has the capacity to influence the environment. One source of self-efficacy is stress management and regulation. The lives of our adolescent fathers have already different kinds of stress attached to it. So, we intended to start the program with a yoga exercise to make them feel relaxed and comfortable. Also, through this activity, they are somehow able to identify their stresses and relieve it through the form of yoga.
GETTING INTO SPORTS
(BASKETBALL AND BILLIARDS)
Carl Jung
In getting into sports, they have to use not only their bodies but as well as their heart and mind. This way, they are able to socialize with others the best way possible. In Carl Jung’s theory, it says how we should deal with the world, inner and outer. Because, we are all unique individuals, we have our own preferred ways on dealing with things. It is suggested that we use the basic ways dealing with the world.
Sensing- In basketball, our adolescent fathers should receive information by means of senses. They would have to be sensing persons who are good at looking and listening all throughout the game. In billiards, they should be aware of what’s happening around them and be observant. This way, they are able to act and decide on the game.
Thinking- Both in basketball and billiards, they are able to practice their rational functions and that involve good decision making. In all these kind of sport, they would have to know the right time, place and instance in shooting the ball. They’d have to know if this is particularly the perfect angle for a shot or not.
DAY 2: ECONOMICS
Film Viewing: “The Pursuit of Happyness”
Albert Bandura’s “Social Learning”
Through the film viewing in the retreat, they are going to be able to learn by examples for they are provided by social models in the film. The film is about a father who’d do anything for his son whatever it takes. Now that our adolescents are fathers already, they would have to do the same thing for their children. The father in the film was able to surpass all the hurdles that came along even when he thought he was at his lowest.
While the adolescent fathers are viewing the film, it is important to establish certain steps Bandura made which involved in the modeling processes.
Attention- If you are going to learn anything, you have to be paying attention. Likewise, anything that puts a damper on attention is going to decrease learning, including observational learning.
Retention- You must also be able to retain, remember, what you have paid attention to. This is where imagery and language come in: we store what we have seen the model doing in the form of mental images or verbal descriptions. When so stored, you can later bring up the image or description so that you can reproduce it with your own behavior.
Sharing of insights and thoughts about the film
Alfred Bandura’s Self-regulation
Upon watching the film, they should be able to reflect well on it and observe themselves and their behavior as well as how they can relate with the entire story of the film.
Self-observation- We take a look on ourselves in front of a mirror and identify who we are as persons. Especially, as a father.
Judgment- During this step, we are able to compare what we see with a standard. To be able to reflect well, comparing ourselves from what we’ve seen and noticed is a good thing to do. This makes us realize our wrong doings and shortcomings as an individual tasked with certain responsibilities. From realizations, we are able to act our tasks well with high confidence. Furthermore, we are able to influence the environment on how we would like it to be.
DAY 3: PERSONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
The Candle WAR
Albert Bandura
In his theory, he looked at personality as an interaction among the environment, behavior and person’s psychological processes.
Through this activity, sensitivity is practiced, so as deep thinking of strategies of keeping the candle alive.
Sinking Game
Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs
It explains how a self-actualized person is. It says that in life, we ask for too many things that are unnecessary. But, truth is, we have to focus ourselves to our primary needs and work on how to achieve them. However, we should keep in mind that we cannot have all the things that we want, for life is not perfect. Life is not a bed of roses, and that it requires us to give up things that somehow matter to us and that we have to make certain sacrifices to attain the things that ought to be more important.
Burning of Uncertainties
Alfred Adler’s Inferiority Complex
Since this is the last activity for this program, this would be the best time to put an end to their regrets, fears and insecurities and turn them into inspirations for them to pursue the better persons in them. Like what Alfred Adler believed, we can turn our weaknesses to strengths and reach our full and best potentials.

REFLECTIONS.
GATPANDAN, EVITA
In doing this project, I experienced a lot of hardships during the process. Jah and I really wanted to finish this as soon as possible but our schedule was the main problem. Happily, we were able to cope up this difficulty. Our eagerness and perseverance for the will of doing this made us strive even more for this project. At first, I admit that I thought that it would be difficult with the justification of the program that we made but when we are actually doing it, all our ideas came out continuously. And, that was beautiful. J Our intensive research and readings about adolescent fathers and the theories helped me, as well as Jah, my groupmate, in doing this project. Also, I became more aware of how our personality really matters which made me understand other’s attitude even more. To sum it all up, I can say that personality is indeed a complicated thing to handle for it needs a lot of effort for you to fully understand it.
DAVID, JANINE LYN
In the process of doing the project, I found the whole task more difficult than the other one we did in the midterm project. Because finals week was approaching, it added even more stress that we had to finish the project the same week as our finals. When the both of us are free from class, Evita and I would immediately do this Gepsych Project for we don’t want to cram. Apart from the big hard task handed to us, I found this more interesting for we are able to analyze a more serious case, a case that usually and nowadays happen to people our age. I really feel that this project was interesting and fun to do. Sure, it requires a lot of readings and writings, but when you are able to see the output of the hard work and great effort you had on it, it pays off.
Having Evita around as my partner was certainly a great help. I couldn’t do this on my own alone. It feels great that you have someone to share your ideas with and have someone to do the work together. This way, you become open-minded on things, accept new and different idea, and come up with the best. For me the hardest part in doing the project was finding enough time to actually do and improve the work. We wanted to be articulate and deliberate on every little thing we included in our writing. We thought if we had more time, and finals are not a problem along the way, we wouldn’t cram this much. However, I’m still happy with what we are able to come up.
Upon doing this project, I learned many things in Psychology specifically in the concept of Personality. Understanding personality is a very broad complex thing. I realized that to do this, you have to take note of many different theories first. And because people are unique, it makes it even more difficult to understand how an individual thinks and why he/she behaves a certain way. But through this project and this things I’ve learned in my Gepsych class, I can say I gained a lot of new information that will further help me understand myself and others, develop myself how to relate with people and become the person I ought to become.
